| Beschrijving keerzijde | The personification of Pax is depicted standing left, clad in flowing robes with a wreath upon her head. In her raised right hand she holds a caduceus, while her left arm supports an olive branch extending upward toward the right field. At her feet to the left stands a small altar or brazier upon which rests an indistinct object, symbolising sacrifice and the establishment of peace. The legend PAX AVG is disposed in the field to either side of the figure, with a beaded border encircling the entire composition. The reverse type, associating Titus with the Augustan ideal of peace, reflects Flavian dynastic propaganda in the wake of the Jewish War. |
