Flanking the trophy are captured arms and armour: an oval shield and a spear to the left, a round shield and two spears to the right. Crossed greaves appear beneath the trophy, completing the composition of spoils. The arrangement is formal and symmetrical, conveying Roman martial victory in the tradition of triumphal imagery. The encircling reverse legend identifies this as a restitution coinage issued by Trajan in honour of earlier imperial types. |
