| Reverse description | Hercules standing facing, head turned slightly, depicted nude in heroic contrapposto stance with the club of Hercules resting at his side. In his right hand he holds a palm frond, symbolic of victory, while a branch or apple of the Hesperides may be present at his side, referencing his Twelve Labors. The reverse legend HERCVLI VICTORI encircles the figure, with the officina mark NK flanking and the mint mark SMN inscribed in the exergue, identifying the Nicomedia mint. The bold, stocky rendering of Hercules reflects the Tetrarchic imperial ideology associating the Herculian dynasty with divine patronage. A beaded border surrounds the entire reverse field. |
