Obverse description Bare, bearded head of Sextus Pompeius facing right, rendered with finely engraved curling hair and a short beard, in a vigorous late-Republican portrait style. The legend MAG·PIVS IMP·ITER is distributed around the periphery of the field, reading from left to right. The entire design is enclosed within a border formed by a wreath of oak leaves, a deliberate allusion to civic and military honor. The portrait is bold and deeply struck, occupying the majority of the flan, which shows the characteristic irregular outline of a hand-struck gold coin.
