In her extended right hand she holds the Palladium, the sacred image of Pallas Athena, and in her left hand she grasps a short vertical sceptre. The figure is positioned centrally within the field, with the encircling legend distributed around the periphery. The composition conveys regal serenity and reflects the Trajanic mint's accomplished die-cutting style. |

Plotina, wife of Trajan, was granted the title Augusta only in 105 AD — notably late, and reportedly at her own request to refuse it initially on grounds of modesty, a story preserved by Cassius Dio. Her coins are far scarcer than those of Trajan himself, as imperial consort issues were struck in smaller volume and on more restricted occasions. The titulature here, incorporating Dacicus and Parthicus alongside Trajan's tribunician and consular counts, allows for fairly tight dating within the reign but does not narrow to a single year with certainty.
