| Obverse description | Laureate, draped, and cuirassed bust of Pescennius Niger facing right, with a short beard rendered in fine detail. The effigy displays the emperor in military attire with paludamentum fastened at the right shoulder. The encircling Latin legend IMP CAES C PESC NIGER IVS AVG runs along the periphery in bold, well-spaced letters. The die-cutting reflects the provincial Antiochene workshop style, with somewhat rougher modelling compared to Roman metropolitan issues. The flan shows irregular edges typical of hammered gold coinage of this brief usurpation period. |
