Obverse description Bare-headed bust of Emperor Otho facing right, with characteristically short, curly hair rendered in fine detail, the neck truncation broad and unadorned. The portrait conveys the official imperial effigy in the Julio-Claudian tradition, with a naturalistic, slightly fleshy facial profile. The surrounding circular legend reads IMP M OTHO CAESAR AVG TR P, distributed around the entire field, and the coin's irregular flan edge is typical of hammered gold production of the Year of the Four Emperors.
