The bust is draped at the shoulder, with finely engraved hair swept back and secured by a laurel wreath. The surrounding legend, disposed in two registers around the periphery of the flan, reads IMP · DIVI · IVLI · F · TER · III · VIR · R · P · C ·, proclaiming Octavian as imperator, son of the deified Julius Caesar, and triumvir for the re-establishment of the Republic. The die work is bold and deeply cut, consistent with the mobile military mint output of this period. |
