Beschrijving voorzijde Laureate head of Emperor Nerva facing right, with draped bust truncated at the shoulder, rendered in the naturalistic portrait style characteristic of Flavian-era Roman imperial coinage. The effigy displays the aged features of the emperor with finely detailed hair arranged in tight curls beneath the laurel wreath. A circular border of beads frames the design, with the Latin legend distributed around the periphery reading IMP NERVA CAES AVG GERM P M TR P II. The portrait conveys the restrained, dignified authority befitting the first of the adoptive emperors.

Beschrijving keerzijde The reverse presents a priestly emblems type featuring, at centre, a simpulum (ladle) flanked on the left by a lituus (augural staff with curved end) and a tripod or patera handle, and on the right by an apex (priestly cap) rendered in low relief against a plain field. These four pontifical and augural instruments collectively symbolise the emperor's role as Pontifex Maximus and his priestly authority over the Roman state religion. The legend IMP II COS IIII P P is distributed around the periphery within a beaded border. The composition is typical of Nerva's aurei struck at Rome in AD 98, emphasising the religious and constitutional legitimacy of his reign.
