Reverse description Frontal view of the Temple of Janus Geminus, depicted as a rectangular aedicule with a prominent arched doorway flanked by heavily studded, closed double doors, symbolising the rare state of universal peace throughout the Roman world. The temple façade is rendered in careful architectural detail, including the panelled door leaves with decorative bosses. The encircling legend, interrupted at the base, proclaims the closing of the temple gates following the establishment of peace on land and sea. This reverse type, unique to Nero's coinage, commemorates his proclamation of peace circa AD 66.
