Obverse description Laureate head of Emperor Maximian facing right, rendered in high relief with finely engraved short beard and close-cropped hair beneath the wreath. The portrait displays the robust, martial physiognomy characteristic of the Tetrarchic style, with strongly modelled facial features. The encircling Latin legend MAXIMIANVS P AVG runs along the beaded border. The truncation of the neck is cleanly cut, typical of late third-century aurei from the Trier mint.
