| Obverse description | Bare-headed, bearded bust of Marcus Antonius facing right, depicted with close-cropped hair rendered in fine relief. A lituus (augural staff), symbol of his priestly office, is placed in the left field behind the portrait. The circumferential legend M · ANTONIVS · III · VIR · R · P · C runs around the periphery, proclaiming his title as one of the three men for the restoration of the Republic. The field is plain, and the design is enclosed within a border of evenly spaced raised dots characteristic of late Republican coinage. The portrait is executed in a vigorous, somewhat realistic style consistent with the propaganda coinage of the Second Triumvirate. |
