| Obverse description | Bare head of Marcus Antonius facing right, rendered with characteristic broad features and short curling hair; a small augural lituus (crooked staff) appears behind the neck, referencing his priestly office. The portrait is boldly modelled in the late Republican style, with strong relief against the plain field. The encircling legend M·ANTONIVS·M·F·M·N·AVGVR·IMP·TERT runs around the periphery, separated from the portrait by a beaded border. The die-work reflects the output of a mobile military mint, with slightly irregular flan and vigorous, if unrefined, engraving. |
