Additional information

Struck in 34 BC during Antony's Donations of Alexandria — the ceremony in which he parceled out Rome's eastern territories to Cleopatra and their children — this aureus names both Antony and his eldest son Antyllus, born to Fulvia, in what reads as a deliberate dynastic statement. The legend's tert designation for a third consulship he had not yet held was a studied provocation in Rome.

Antyllus was executed by Octavian's order in 30 BC, immediately after Alexandria fell. He was approximately sixteen.
