| Obverse description | Bare-headed, draped bust of Marcus Antonius facing right, rendered with a strong, mature portrait featuring short curly hair and a pronounced jaw. The circular legend is disposed around the effigy within a border of dots, reading ANTON · AVG · IMP · III · COS · DES · III · III · V · R · P · C, proclaiming his titles of augur, imperator for the third time, consul designate for the third time, and triumvir for the restoration of the Republic. The portrait is executed in the vigorous realist style characteristic of late Republican coinage, with bold relief and careful attention to individualized facial features. The field shows natural surface texture consistent with hammer-struck gold of the period. |
