| Obverse description | Bare head of Marcus Antonius facing right, rendered with naturalistic portraiture typical of late Republican coinage, displaying strong, individualized facial features and short, tousled hair. The bust is unadorned, presented in profile with a slightly thickset neck characteristic of Antonian portraiture. The encircling Latin legend, naming Marcus Antonius as imperator, augur, triumvir for the restoration of the Republic, and citing Marcus Nerva as proquaestor and propraetor, runs continuously around the periphery of the flan. The field is plain and uncluttered, allowing the portrait full prominence. The entire design is contained within a border of evenly spaced raised dots. |
