| Beschrijving voorzijde | Central field displays a decorated culullus (sacrificial ladle or simpulum) to the right and a lituus (augural staff, curved wand) to the left, the latter rendered as a tall vertical rod topped with an axe-like finial. The legend CAESAR to the left and DICT to the right flanks the devices, reading in two parts across the field. The design is enclosed within a beaded border and the plain flan edge reflects the characteristic irregular hammered technique of late Republican gold coinage. The implements — lituus and simpulum — are emblems of the pontificate and augural offices held by Julius Caesar, underscoring his religious authority as Pontifex Maximus and augur. |
