| Obverse description | Bare-headed, laureate bust of Emperor Hadrian facing left, depicted with his characteristic short curly hair and full beard, the latter being an innovation in imperial portraiture that Hadrian introduced. The emperor is shown draped and cuirassed, with finely engraved drapery visible at the truncation of the shoulder. The portrait is rendered in a refined Hellenistic style reflecting Hadrian's philhellenic cultural inclinations.
