| Obverse description | Laureate and draped bust of Hadrian facing right, with a short, neatly curled beard characteristic of his portraiture, rendered in high relief with fine sculptural detail. The emperor wears a paludamentum fastened at the shoulder, visible at the base of the bust. The encircling Latin legend reads IMP CAESAR TRAIAN HADRIANVS AVG, distributed around the periphery of the flan. The portrait reflects the Hellenizing aesthetic favored by Hadrian, with tightly arranged curls across the forehead and temples. The flan edges are slightly irregular, as typical of hammered Roman aurei of this period. |
