| Beschrijving keerzijde | Laureate, draped, and cuirassed bust of the deified Trajan facing right, depicted posthumously with a similar serpent or caduceus staff visible behind the bust in the left field, echoing the obverse composition. The portrait is rendered with characteristic Trajanic physiognomy, including a strong brow and close-cropped hair beneath the laurel wreath. The surrounding Latin legend DIVO TRAIANO PART AVG PATRI encircles the field within a beaded border, honoring Trajan as divus and Parthicus. This reverse type was struck by Hadrian as a posthumous tribute to his adoptive father and predecessor, legitimizing his own succession. The pairing of the two imperial busts on a single aureus is an exceptionally rare and historically significant commemorative device. |
