Reverse description Minerva, goddess of wisdom and war, depicted standing to the right atop a rostral column adorned with a ship's prow, holding a spear in her right hand and a round shield in her left. An owl, Minerva's sacred bird and symbol of wisdom, is shown to the right at the base of the column. This reverse type is one of the signature Minerva types favored by Domitian, who held the goddess in particular veneration, and recurs consistently across his gold and silver coinage of this period. The reverse legend encircles the design field, recording the emperor's titles for the year 85 AD.
