背面描述 A Roman eagle stands facing, with wings spread wide and head turned to the right, depicted in bold high relief at the center of the field. The bird stands upon a low ground line, its powerful talons and feathered plumage rendered with considerable detail characteristic of Flavian die engravers. The circular legend P M TR POT III IMP V COS X P P surrounds the type, separated from the design by a fine beaded inner border. The composition is enclosed within a dotted border running along the coin's periphery.

附加信息

Domitian's tribunician dating places this aureus firmly in 84 AD, the year he assumed his tenth consulship — a rapid accumulation of offices he used deliberately to project permanence and dynastic legitimacy after the instability of 69. The IMP V acclamation recorded here reflects campaigns on the Rhine frontier, where Domitian took personal command against the Chatti, a decision that drew senatorial scorn but genuine military results.

Suetonius and later sources hostile to Domitian systematically undercut his military record, yet the Chattan war produced a real frontier reorganization, including new limes construction. The fifth imperatorial salutation on this coin dates to that campaign's formal conclusion.
