| Beschrijving keerzijde | Jupiter's eagle, the sacred bird of the king of the gods, depicted facing front and perched upon a thunderbolt, its wings fully spread in a display of divine power. The eagle's head is turned to the left, its plumage rendered in fine detail by the die engraver. The thunderbolt, symbol of Jupiter's supreme authority, is shown horizontally beneath the eagle's talons. The encircling legend is disposed around the entire field, separated from the rim by a border of beads visible on the well-preserved die. The composition conveys the propagandistic message of Jupiter's protection over Domitian's reign. |
