| Obverse description | Bare-headed bust of Domitian facing right, rendered with fine detail in the high-relief Flavian style characteristic of late 1st-century Roman gold coinage. The emperor's portrait displays closely cropped curling hair across the forehead and naturalistically modelled facial features. The circular legend is incuse around the periphery of the flan, reading DOMITIANVS AVGVSTVS. The flan is irregular in outline, as is typical of hand-struck aurei of the period. |

| Obverse lettering | DOMITIANVS AVGVSTVS (Translation: Domitianus Augustus. Domitian, emperor (Augustus).) |
| Reverse description | Domitian standing in a triumphal quadriga advancing left, holding an olive branch in his right hand and a sceptre in his left, as befitting a triumphing general. The car of the chariot is decorated with a relief depiction of Victory crowning a trophy, alluding to Domitian's Germanic campaigns. The four horses are rendered in lively motion. The surrounding legend records his victory title and seventeenth consulship, reading GERMANICVS COS XVII. |
