| Obverse description | Laureate head of Domitian facing right, rendered in high relief with fine naturalistic detail characteristic of Flavian portraiture. The emperor's hair is styled in tight curls beneath a radiate laurel wreath, with a pronounced aquiline profile. The circular legend reads DOMITIANVS AVGVSTVS, distributed around the bust in well-spaced incuse Latin capitals. The fields are smooth and uncluttered, focusing full attention on the imperial effigy. The flan is slightly irregular in shape, as is typical of hammered gold coinage of the period. |
