Obverse description Laureate and draped bust of Diocletian facing right, rendered with considerable portraiture realism typical of the Tetrarchic period. The emperor wears a laurel wreath composed of large berries and leaves, with a ribbon tie visible at the nape. Short-cropped hair and a closely trimmed beard are rendered in fine detail. The encircling legend reads DIOCLETIANVS AVGVSTVS, distributed around the bust within a beaded border.
