正面描述 Bare head of Marcus Antonius facing right, rendered in a vigorous, somewhat austere Republican portrait style with strongly modelled features and short hair. The legend encircles the effigy, reading from left upward and around the right side of the flan. The design is contained within a border of dots. The portrait conveys the martial authority befitting Antony's role as triumvir, with a pronounced chin and firm jaw characteristic of his known numismatic likenesses.

附加信息

Issued in 42 BC by the moneyer Publius Clodius under Mark Antony's triumviral authority, this aureus belongs to the extraordinary coinage produced to finance the campaign against Brutus and Cassius culminating at Philippi. The *quattuorviri auro argento aere flando feriundo* — the college of four moneyers responsible for striking precious metal — were operating at extraordinary output levels during this period, with massive gold and silver issues needed to pay troops across the eastern Mediterranean.

Publius Clodius was almost certainly a relative of the notorious tribune Publius Clodius Pulcher, killed in 52 BC. The *M·F* filiation confirms descent from a Marcus Clodius.
