| Obverse description | Bare-necked, laureate bust of Emperor Claudius facing right, rendered in high relief with finely detailed wreath ties falling behind the neck. The portrait displays the characteristic realism of Julio-Claudian die-cutting, with a strong jaw and slightly furrowed brow. A continuous Latin legend encircles the effigy within a beaded border. The field is smooth and deeply struck, typical of Claudian aurei from the Roman imperial mint. |
