Obverse description Bare-necked, laureate bust of Emperor Claudius facing right, rendered in high relief with finely detailed wreath ties falling behind the neck. The portrait displays the characteristic realism of Julio-Claudian die-cutting, with a strong jaw and slightly furrowed brow. A continuous Latin legend encircles the effigy within a beaded border. The field is smooth and deeply struck, typical of Claudian aurei from the Roman imperial mint.
Obverse script Latin
Obverse lettering TI CLAVD CAESAR AVG P M TR P X IMP P P
(Translation: Tiberius Claudius Caesar Augustus, Pontifex Maximus, Tribunicia Potestate Decima, Imperator, Pater Patriae. Tiberius Claudius Caesar, emperor (Augustus), high priest, holder of tribunician power for the tenth time, supreme commander (Imperator), father of the nation.)
