Obverse description Bare-necked, laureate bust of Emperor Claudius facing right, rendered with considerable realism in the early Imperial portrait tradition. The laureate wreath is depicted in fine detail, with individual leaves and berries visible across the crown. The emperor's features are individualized, showing a mature, slightly fleshy face characteristic of Claudian portraiture. The truncation of the bust is bare, without drapery. The surrounding Latin legend is separated from the portrait by a beaded border running the full circumference of the flan.
