| Reverse description | A triumphal arch is depicted in the lower portion of the field, shown in three-quarter perspective with a single arched gateway surmounted by an attic decorated with military trophies and flanked by standing figures. Above the arch, an equestrian figure — presumably the Emperor Claudius — advances to the right, posed in a commanding military posture. Additional trophy groups and attendant figures flank the mounted emperor on either side. The legend DE BRITANN appears prominently on the architrave of the arch, commemorating the Roman conquest of Britain. A beaded border frames the entire composition. |
