| Reverse description | Bare-headed, draped bust of the young Nero facing right, portrayed as a youth with curly hair and paludamentum fastened at the shoulder, identifying him as heir designate and military prince. The composition presents the youthful prince in a manner befitting his status as Princeps Iuventutis, heir to the Julio-Claudian dynasty. The encircling legend NERO CLAVD CAES DRVSVS GERM PRINC IVVENT runs around the periphery, proclaiming his titles. The plain field and neat beaded border frame the portrait with typical Claudian aureus elegance. The reverse type served as deliberate dynastic propaganda, publicly designating Nero as Claudius's chosen successor. |
