Obverse description Bare head of Augustus facing right, rendered in the classicizing Hellenistic portrait style characteristic of early Augustan coinage. The hair is depicted in fine, carefully arranged strands swept forward over the brow, with individual locks rendered with great sculptural precision. The truncation of the neck is plain, without drapery. The legend AVGVSTVS appears in large, bold Latin capitals along the lower periphery of the field. The coin is bordered by a prominent beaded inner circle visible at the left margin.
