Obverse description Bare head of Augustus facing right, rendered in fine relief with naturalistic portraiture characteristic of Augustan classicism. The emperor's hair is depicted in short, layered strands swept forward over the brow in the distinctive Augustan coiffure. The encircling legend S P Q R CAESARI AVGVSTO runs along the outer edge of the field, referencing the senatorial and popular dedication to the emperor. The portrait is positioned centrally within the coin's field, with no additional decorative elements. The execution reflects the high artistic standards of the Lugdunum or Spanish mint workshops active during the late 1st century BC.
