Obverse description Bare head of Augustus facing right, rendered in fine classical style with naturalistic hair swept forward in short locks over the forehead. The portrait is youthful and idealized, characteristic of early Augustan coinage. The legend S P Q R IMP CAESARI encircles the bust, reading partially above and to the left, with CAESARI positioned to the right of the portrait. The field is smooth and the relief of the bust is bold, consistent with the high-quality die engraving of the Rome mint during this period.
