Obverse description Bare head of Augustus facing right, rendered with fine naturalistic detail characteristic of Augustan classicism, depicting short, layered hair combed forward over the brow. The legend AVGVSTVS is inscribed to the left of the portrait and DIVI F to the right, reading around the periphery of the flan. The effigy is executed in high relief with careful attention to portraiture, consistent with the refined artistic standards of the Lugdunum mint during the Augustan period. The field is smooth and unadorned, allowing the portrait to dominate the composition.
