Obverse description Bare-necked laureate head of Augustus facing left, rendered in finely modelled high relief characteristic of Augustan court portraiture. The laurel wreath, symbol of military triumph and divine favour, is depicted with carefully engraved leaves tied at the nape with a fillet whose ribbons fall behind the neck. The facial features display the idealised yet individualistic portrait style of the early Principate, with a strong brow, defined cheekbone, and slightly parted lips. The legend is distributed in two arcs around the periphery of the flan, with a border of beads encircling the entire design.
