Obverse description Bare, oak-wreathed head of Augustus facing right, rendered in fine high relief characteristic of Augustan-era die-cutting. The portrait displays the emperor's idealized, youthful features with carefully rendered hair visible beneath the corona civica. The encircling legend is divided on either side of the portrait, reading CAESAR to the left and AVGVSTVS to the right in well-spaced Latin capitals. The flan is slightly irregular, as is typical of hammered aurei of this period.
