| Obverse description | Bare head of Augustus facing left, rendered in fine relief with naturalistically detailed hair swept forward in characteristic Augustan fashion. The portrait presents a youthful, idealized effigy consistent with early imperial portraiture conventions. The legend AVGVSTVS is inscribed along the lower exergual area in incuse Latin capitals. The flan is slightly irregular, as is typical of hammered Augustan aurei, with the portrait filling the field in a confident, high-relief style. |
