Pseudo-autonomous bronzes from Amorium are among the more obscure products of Phrygia's civic minting activity under the Severans. The magistrate name Gaios recorded in the obverse legend helps anchor this piece within the reign of Septimius Severus, during which provincial cities across Asia Minor were vigorously asserting civic identity through independent coinage — not imperial sanction, but local initiative driving the dies.
Amorium's output from this period is sparsely represented in major collections, which is why the SNG Copenhagen and von Aulock citations together carry unusual weight for establishing type.
