| Beschrijving keerzijde | A legionary eagle standing facing, with wings spread, positioned between two military standards each surmounted by a capricorn finial, the dynastic emblem associated with the Severan and Gordian dynasties. The city ethnic NIKAIEΩN is divided around the central device, with N-IK-AI-E distributed between the standards and ΩN placed beneath the eagle in the exergual area. The badge arrangement on the standard masts follows a 2-1-2 pattern. The composition is characteristic of the civic bronze coinage struck at Nicaea in Bithynia under Gordian III. |
