Obverse description Radiate, draped, and cuirassed bust of Emperor Gordian III facing right, portrayed in three-quarter view seen from the rear, revealing the elaborate detailing of the cuirass. The radiate crown is rendered with prominent spikes. The encircling Greek legend reads M ANT ΓOPΔIANOC A(YΓ), identifying the emperor by name and title, disposed around the periphery of the flan.

Reverse description Three upright military standards arranged side by side on a ground line, each shaft surmounted by a globular finial and fitted with transverse cross-bars; the outer two standards are additionally crowned with wreath ornaments, while the central standard bears an eagle (Aquila) at its apex. The legend NIKAIEΩN, identifying the civic mint of Nicaea in Bithynia, is inscribed across the field between the standards, with ΩN appearing in the exergue below the ground line.
