Beschrijving voorzijde Laureate, draped, and cuirassed bust of Emperor Caracalla facing right, rendered in the provincial style characteristic of Thracian municipal coinage. Aanvullende informatie

Topirus was a minor Thracian city on the Via Egnatia, the Roman road running from the Adriatic coast toward Byzantium, which gave even small provincial mints like this one a degree of economic relevance. Civic bronze issues of this kind were produced entirely at local expense and initiative, with no central Roman authority mandating their production — the city petitioned for the right to strike in the emperor's name.

Varb. 2688 is a relatively obscure entry even within Varbanov's extensive provincial coverage, reflecting how thinly documented Topiran issues remain compared to larger Thracian centers like Philippopolis or Anchialus.
