| Beschrijving voorzijde | Archangel Michael depicted full-length, facing, standing erect in imperial military garb, holding an unsheathed sword in his right hand. The figure is rendered in the flat, hieratic Byzantine style characteristic of late Palaeologan coinage. Greek legend flanking the figure identifies the Archangel as XAP Γ XM (Saint Michael Archangel). The flan is irregular and slightly concave (scyphate tendency), typical of late Byzantine billon and bronze trachea. |
