| Beschrijving voorzijde | Scyphate obverse depicting the Virgin Mary (Theotokos) in orans posture, shown facing and nimbate, with arms raised in supplication. The figure is rendered in a hieratic Byzantine style typical of Trapezuntine coinage of the early 13th century. Greek legends are disposed in the fields to either side of the central figure, identifying the Mother of God. The flat, worn surfaces reflect the characteristic fabric of billon aspron trachea of the period. |
