Reverse description Two imperial figures stand facing in full length on the concave reverse: at left, Emperor Alexios III Angelos, crowned and wearing the imperial divitision and jewelled loros, and at right, Saint Constantine the Great, nimbate and similarly attired in loros. Between them they jointly support a labarum staff surmounted by a cross on globe, while each also holds an individual labarum; on some die varieties a patriarchal cross on globe appears in place of the simple cross. The legend ΑΛΕΖΙΩ ΔΕϹΠ Ο ΚΩΝΤΑΝΤΙ identifies the emperor and his imperial patron saint.
