| Obverse description | Central field depicts the Genoese castle (tower with battlements and doorway), rendered in stylized relief, enclosed within a dotted inner circle. Eight six-pointed stars are distributed evenly around the castle in the annular field between the inner dotted circle and the outer beaded border. The circular Latin legend runs along the outer margin, reading COMVNE IANVEM, identifying the Genoese commune of Caffa. The design is characteristic of the Genoese colonial coinage struck in the Black Sea trading post. |
