| Popis líce | The obverse presents the Shi'a kalima in bold thuluth script, arranged in three horizontal registers across the field: 'La ilaha illa Allah, Muhammad nabi Allah, Ali wali Allah' (There is no god but God, Muhammad is the Prophet of God, Ali is the Saint of God). The densely packed calligraphic legend fills the entire flan, with individual words interlocking in characteristic Safavid fashion. The field is enclosed by a continuous inner border of raised pellets, itself surrounded by a plain outer rim that follows the irregular contour of the hammered planchet. The deeply struck, high-relief lettering is characteristic of Isfahan mint production under Sultan Husayn. |
