The inscription reads: 'By the grace of God, coinage in gold in Khorasan became the succor and support for the King of the Religion, Ali Musa Reza.' The mint name 'Zarb Mashhad Muqaddas' (struck at holy Mashhad) appears within the legend, invoking the Shi'a Imam's shrine city as the locus of authority. The design is entirely epigraphic, with no figurative elements, consistent with Safavid-era Islamic coin conventions. |

This anonymous coinage was granted to Nadir as viceroy of Khorasan by the Safavid shah Tahmasp II in AH 1142, in recognition of his role in reconquering Isfahan; as such, the coin bears no issuer's name, reflecting its deliberately anonymous character. |
