| Reverse description | The reverse carries a concise Shi'a Islamic profession of faith in Arabic, arranged in multiple lines across the field in Nasta'liq script. The central legend reads the shahada and the declaration of Ali as the Friend of God: 'There is no god but God, Muhammad is the Messenger of God, Ali is the Friend of God.' This anonymous coinage was granted to Nadir as viceroy of Khorasan by the Safavid shah Tahmasp II in AH 1142, in recognition of his role in reconquering Isfahan; as such, the coin bears no issuer's name, reflecting its deliberately anonymous character. |
