| Obverse description | Struck in hammered gold, the obverse bears a multi-line Persian poetic legend in Nasta'liq script arranged across the field. The inscription reads: 'By the grace of God, coinage in gold in Khorasan became the succor and support for the King of the Religion, Ali Musa Reza.' The mint name 'Zarb Mashhad Muqaddas' (struck at holy Mashhad) appears within the legend, invoking the Shi'a Imam's shrine city as the locus of authority. The design is entirely epigraphic, with no figurative elements, consistent with Safavid-era Islamic coin conventions. |

| Reverse description | The reverse carries a concise Shi'a Islamic profession of faith in Arabic, arranged in multiple lines across the field in Nasta'liq script. The central legend reads the shahada and the declaration of Ali as the Friend of God: 'There is no god but God, Muhammad is the Messenger of God, Ali is the Friend of God.' This anonymous coinage was granted to Nadir as viceroy of Khorasan by the Safavid shah Tahmasp II in AH 1142, in recognition of his role in reconquering Isfahan; as such, the coin bears no issuer's name, reflecting its deliberately anonymous character. |
